Government Approval for JWC International Port Security Training
Just last week we saw yet another incident of people smuggling by sea in to the UK. Two British men were charged with immigration offences after attempting to smuggle 18 Albanians (including women and children) in to the UK.
Border and Port Security is a huge concern across Europe at present and with the Royal Navy sending more assets to the Mediterranean to assist with the ongoing refugee crisis, whilst the UK is exposed to increasing risks from terrorism, many people are left thinking, should we not be worrying about our own security and safety first before we tend to everyone else’s? I’m sure everyone has their own thoughts on these challenges.
In addition, former head of the Royal Navy commented on these issues this week, Lord West said;
"We are taking a calculated risk with our own territorial waters, already we have seen these illegal immigrants and I don't believe there aren't clever traffickers using the smaller ports to send them and I'm sure terrorists are aware of the route too we need to get a grip on this. We are taking a gamble that nothing will ever happen in our seas and that is a risky view to take given the dangerous world we are in." Telegraph Newspaper
Ports are one of the first access points of anyone entering a country and likewise often the last line of defence before entry. Port security personnel play a key role in ensuring a sovereign state is defended and protected against external harm and threats. Therefore, it is paramount that security personnel employed within a port or port facility are trained to the highest of professional standards and implement the most stringent security measures.
JWC International has been working hard over the last 6 months to develop a leading training programme for Port Security Personnel and Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs). We are delighted to announce that our new programme has been approved by the United Kingdom Government’s Department for Transport (DfT).
